Spamming
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:04:36 PM »
I just wanted all of our users to know that we are very serious in regards to potential spammers. Each users IP
address is checked to see if there is a history of placing spam in forums. If we find the address we immediately ban them.
We not only ban them from the forum, we ban them from the coinslots website.

I am sure that the forum website owner, Jackpot, agrees with me. This forum is intended to exchange information, sell or
trade coin slot related items, even if they are just IC's that are used in these machines.

If you are in doubt as if you can post, just ask because sometimes there is unrelated items that just beg to be seen
by others (hint sales of Viagra is not one of those items)

Enjoy the spam free forum

dhellis,

What is a avatar and IC's in machines mean ?. I don't think I have seen spam , is it like the junk email I get in my in box.

Is it OK to put things in for sale or wanted and or is a  follow up or is it considered spam.

Let me know what is considered spam so I know.

                                          Thank's

Avatar is the picture that shows in your profile. Mine is my daughters little Shi-Tzu . When I mentioned IC's I was talking about electronic components that are used on the circuit boards. One of our users has several listed and since many coin operated machines use various electronic parts these are acceptable for posting. Viagra or other medications are not.

You haven't seen SPAM because I am pretty quick in catching these guys but 3 times they made it far enough to post
but none of them lasted longer than an hour before the post being deleted.

As long as the item for sale or the item that you want is associated with coin operated machines, it doesn't matter. You could say that you want to trade your motorcycle for a slot machine or vice versa and that is OK. It is when people post for things like drugs or  the one that someone posted for marijuana that I consider spam.

Thanks' for keeping the lid tight on everything as I have found this site very helpfull and interesting to me and meeting new folks with the same interests.

That is the point of watching closely, we don't need it nor do we like it. Thanks for the comments

dhellis,
I am an administrator on a couple of other sites and I use an IP address lookup website to see where the inactive user is located before I activate the account.
I am sure you do also but if not, the website is "whatismyip.com"
I find that most, if not all spammers, are from outside the country.
Again, you are doing a Great Job,
Ciao,
Monti

Thanks for the kind words Monti. The software used with this forum will show you, in most cases, where
the issuing authority is (RIPE, IANA, etc, etc ) I use  http://www.stopforumspam.com/search
enter the IP address and it will show if anyone has ever reported this IP as a spammer. I have found
that some of these people have been reported for spam more than 1,000 times.

Thanks

Dan

That doesn't surprise me as I have found that most, if not all, spam is computer generated and the attacks can be limitless.
I also sell and offer my services for restoration work on other sites, Craig's List, Etc. and have the same spammers hit me repeatidly.
Just part of our wonderful internet technology that I wish would go away, but I know it won't.
Take Care,
Monti

Here's another good site for looking up the spammers:

http://botscout.com/

Between both the stopforumspam and botscout sites, they pretty much cover most spammers. Of course there is also the old Spamhaus:

http://www.spamhaus.org/

Thanks Ken, do appreciate it. As Rodger mentioned I keep my eyes open and some of them I ban when I see their IP address pop up and I find that they are a spammer.

Sometimes just googling the spammer's username exactly as it appears will bring up other sites where that spammer has been. And you'll find that 99% of the time, the spammer will have posted the exact same message/trash.
